week 4

Visual Arts, Black Womanhood, Self-Reclamation

This session explores visual art as a space for identity, self-representation and reclamation. Through the lens of Black womanhood, we consider how artistic practice can challenge dominant representations, express embodied experiences and create new possibilities for self-definition, healing and transformation.

Speaker: Caroline Lacoma

Caroline Lacoma is a London-based, self-taught visual artist and trained theologian originally from Guadeloupe. Working primarily through self-portraiture, her practice explores Black womanhood, identity, transformation and the process of becoming. Her work uses the body, space and shadow to explore themes of healing, introspection and self-reclamation.

Explore Caroline's artwork and practice.
