Here (Now) in Our (Diaspora) Space
This session is a Librarian- artist collaboration and reimagines the library and classroom as spaces of collective knowledge-making, creativity and belonging. Drawing on Avtar Brah’s concept of diaspora space, we explore how histories, memories and identities intersect within wider relations of power. Through a screening of iwoyi: within the echo (2024) and a dialogue between our guest speakers, we consider how artistic practice, collaboration and decolonial approaches can challenge conventional understandings of knowledge, archives and institutional spaces.
Guest Speakers: Sae Matsuno & Rohan Ayinde
Sae Matsuno is a librarian at the Maughan Library, King's College London, with a background in art and architectural history. Her interests include the colonial histories of library spaces and the possibilities of collaborative, decolonial approaches to knowledge-making. Previously based at the Stuart Hall Library, she has been developing a creative collaboration with Rohan Ayinde since 2021.
Rohan Ayinde is an anadisciplinary artist and poet whose practice moves across artistic forms and ways of knowing. His work explores questions of identity, memory, diaspora and the possibilities of creative collaboration. He co-directed iwoyi: within the echo (2024) with Tayo Rapoport.
